It was midnight. There was even no people on the way. A man drove his car, and he was going along in western Texas. He was so tired. Suddenly, he saw a sign that said GAS EAT. So he pulled off. He expected was a place like a bunch of others, where coffee tastes like copper and the flies never sleep.
This was a perfect shop. Their tables were painted wood. And the counter was spick-and –span. The man smelt everything here. He sworn it. There was just one old boy in the shop. And he looked like about forty, got gray above the ears. The car man sat down at the counter and ordered coffee and apple pie.
The man felt so sad, because the old boy was the kind that they mean well. He was happy when he got his coffee and apple pie. The cream was fresh and cold and thick. The pie was good, too.
A car pulled up outside. A tall man and a short man came right in. They ordered two coffees and a road map. He got their coffee first, and then started rooting through a pile of papers by the telephone. For a while, the two men spread out the map and leaned over it. They liked a couple of feed merchants. They did not seem a suitable way. They wanted to across this side of El Paso. The old boy could help them. And he spent a lot of time going through the papers by the telephone again. He said a bridge there. He told them how to found it. They talked a long time. The two men wanted to leave when the tall man finished his coffee. He folded the map and put it in his pocket. The old boy seemed startled, he just shrugged and said,’’ Glad to let you have it.’’
Then the two men stopped in the middle of the flood, they turned around, reached inside their jackets, and pulled guns on the old boy and the car man. Suddenly, they heard the police voice. The police came here. What happened here? The police how to know bad men in the shop. The two men did not believe their eyes. They were caught by police. The car man though about the thing. Actually the old boy called phone the police. He cheated the two men get map by telephone. He was so clever. The old boy was a winner in the action.
